Beyond Housing and The City of Pagedale hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for The Pagedale Senior Housing and Retail Development on Wednesday, August 24th, 2011. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see photographs taken at the event, which attracted more than 50 guests, including Senator William "Lacy" Clay, Deputy Director Mattie Moore, representing Senator Claire McCaskill's office, and Susan Rollins, Executive Director of St. Louis County Housing Authority, representing St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley's office as well as Mayor Mary Louise Carter along with other elected officials and religious leaders from the City of Pagedale. Mayors Monica Huddleston of Greendale, Viola Murphy of Cool Valley and Councilperson Roberta Ceasar of Beverly Hills, partners in the 24:1 Initiative, were on hand to celebrate another milestone of progress in the area.
The complex, which is under construction at 6810 Page Avenue, will include 42 affordable housing units for senior citizens and a branch of Midwest BankCentre, the first full service bank in the history of Pagedale. Amenities in the residential portion of the development include a library/computer room, 3 laundry rooms, an exercise room and 2 community rooms (1 equipped with a fireplace) for meetings, events and celebrations. 38 units will be designed with1 bedroom and 1 bathroom while 4 units will have 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The interior space on the ground floor will open up into a secured green area and garden space allowing residents to walk, garden and socialize in an attractive outdoor setting. The facility will be an attractive compliment to the Save-A-Lot grocery store that Beyond Housing opened last summer on the west side of the senior development property.
The Pagedale Senior Housing & Retail Development will place top priority on providing socialization, education and other enhanced services for the residents. The community space will be made available for all seniors in the surrounding area (including Mt Beulah Senior Residents) by creating a hub of activity with high quality programs and events including financial and health literacy education, dance lessons, organized games, social events and more.
“Nearly ten years ago, we made a promise to the leadership and residents of Pagedale to help revitalize this community,” states Chris Krehmeyer, President/CEO of Beyond Housing. He continues, “We are excited to contribute to the transformation by attracting businesses like Midwest BankCentre that residents feel are vital for thriving communities. We look forward to continuing to grow and fulfill our mission of strengthening neighborhoods, one family at a time.”
