Service-Enriched Rental Housing
The Service-Enriched Rental Housing program assists families that have difficulty bridging the growing gap between housing costs and incomes. Our goal is to help them transform their lives by:
  • Providing them with affordable rental housing in safe neighborhoods;
  • Working with them to establish long-term goals related to education, employment and homeownership; and
  • Connecting them with a comprehensive array of educational, employment, youth development, and other support services to help them achieve these goals.
Within a few short years, families typically find employment, achieve educational goals, and move on to independent living or homeownership for the first time.

Families must apply for admission to the program and are accepted based on their ability to demonstrate a commitment to setting and achieving long-term goals.  The average family spends five years in a rental home before moving on to homeownership or relocating due to employment or educational opportunities.

Support Services
Job training, education, and other support services ensure that individual family members acquire the skills and confidence to make significant and long-lasting improvements in their lives.

Each tenant family is carefully assessed and counseled to identify the specific educational and support services they need to help them realize their goals.  In partnership with other agencies and service providers, Beyond Housing connects families with services such as:
  • Employment counseling and vocational assistance
  • GED educational support
  • Assistance for higher education
  • Summer Camp and back-to-school supplies for children
  • Job readiness and job training activities
  • Transportation assistance
  • Individual Development Accounts (matched savings accounts to encourage saving and asset accumulation)
  • Training for homeownership
  • Parenting skills
  • Crisis intervention
  • Child care assistance
  • Money management training
  • Back-to-School Supplies and Book Fair
  • Holiday Friends –providing household goods and personal items, including a "wish" gift for children
These services create long-term change, hope, and opportunity for the families who most need it.

Jobs, Education, Trainings and Services (JETS) Program
Heads of households who require more intensive, individualized support are referred to the JETS Program.  JETS participants meet monthly for group discussions and family activities designed to keep them on track towards their goals.  Families can remain in the program for as long as it takes for them to reach their goals.  Many participants remain involved by mentoring others even after becoming a homeowner.
