In 2011, Beyond Housing:

  • Provided over 340 safe, affordable homes for low-income families.
  • Served over 200 youth in the After School Program, Children's Defense Fund Freedom School, Summer Program, Redbird Rookies Baseball and the Wolfpack Football team and Cheer Squad.
  • The Beyond Housing After School Program became a certified Supplemental Education Services Provider through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to deliver tutoring services to targeted students of Normandy School District.
  • There were more than 1400 visits to Beyond Housing's Food Pantry and nutritious food packages were delivered monthly to 30 Pagedale seniors, most of whom are homebound.
  • Created the 24:1 Community Land Trust, the largest land trust in the St. Louis region.
  • Neighborhood Stabilization Program received a grant for $1.5 million to assist with home repairs for existing homeowners in Hillsdale, Pine Lawn and Pagedale. It also acquired and rehabbed 23 homes within the 24:1 geographic footprint.
  • The Viking Advantage Individual Development Account Program provided financial literacy training and academic support activities to 103 Normandy Senior High School Students. Fifty nine of the participants graduated in 2010 and 2011 and are now attending institutions of higher learning such as UM-St.Louis, Ball State University, Howard University, UM-Columbia and North Carolina A&T to name just a few. The total Viking Advantage IDA accumulation to date is over $91K.
  • Beyond Housing broke ground for a $10 million, 42 unit Senior Housing and Retail Development Project with a target completion date in 2013.
  • Midwest BankCentre partnered with Beyond Housing to open the first bank in Pagedale in its history.
  • 24:1 Partner, Child Day Care Association, was funded to provide assessment and training to 12 licensed day care facilities to improve kindergarten readiness within Normandy School District.
  • 24:1 Partner, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, was funded to expand the ABC Program that increases involvement in mentees academic life.
  • 24:1 Passport to Health Project, a community wide health and wellness program, funded by Express Scripts Foundation, is providing free exercise, nutrition and general health improvement activities to 125 residents in the 24:1 communities.
  • 24:1 Partner, Normandy School District received funding to implement a Community Garden Project at the new Barack Obama Elementary School and funding to keep the Parent Liaison Program in place.
  • We broke ground on 10 new homes in Pine Lawn to be completed in 2013.
  • We assisted 429 residents at risk of foreclosure with a 31% success rate.
  • Providing expert advisement training for nearly 2,000 potential homebuyers in 2010 and 2011,enabling them to prepare and discern when the time and opportunity is right for them to make a wise purchase. Less than 2% of those who engaged in Beyond Housing's homeownership preparation have faced foreclosure proceedings.
  • The 24:1 Initiative was given a What's Right with the Region Award for Promoting Stronger Communities.
  • The 24:1 Initiative was cited in 'Building Neighborhoods of Opportunity, the White House Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative Report published July 2011. In the Effective Neighborhood Revitalization Strategies section, the report cites Beyond Housing as an example of "building strategic and accountable partnerships" and describes some of the core elementsof the Beyond Housing led 24:1 Initiative taking place within the geographic foot print of Normandy School District. The report identifies several key elements for effective neighborhood revitalization. Beyond Housing's 'place-based' approach incorporates all of the elements identified.
