Becky McGill has joined Beyond Housing to serve a 1 year, full-time assignment as a VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) member to build our capacity to respond to the foreclosure crisis.  Becky is taking time off from pursuing her PhD in Social Psychology at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and has recently completed an AmeriCorps community service assignment in Kansas City.  Click here for more details about VISTA at Beyond Housing.

 

 Cathy Yost has joined Beyond Housing on a project-by-project basis as a volunteer Communications Specialist.  Cathy has recently retired from the First Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood after 20 years as Director of Lay Ministry.  She has a passion for writing and extensive experience in mission interpretation and public relations.  Cathy has served on the Board of Directors for a number of not-for-profit agencies and has presented seminars locally, regionally and nationally.  Her first project is the history of the City of Pagedale with special focus on its tradition of community development.

VOLUNTEER Minimize

Our, on-going volunteer opportunities attract more than 600 volunteers each year, assisting us with:

  • Home Crews...cleaning, repairing, painting and landscaping homes in our Service-Enriched Rental Housing Program and our Neighborhood Stabilization Program...no special skills needed.   We are also looking for skilled volunteers to supervise Home Crews on the project site.
  • Assisting with family events
  • Distributing camp and school supplies to youth
  • Donating and distributing gifts to our families during the holidays
  • Teaching classes in our Homeownership Center or Foreclosure Prevention workshops.  Foreclosure Prevention workshops are a VISTA activity...content and presentation skills are required.  To get details about volunteer opportunites with VISTA at Beyond Housing, click here
  • Implementing after-school programs (including individualized tutoring, karate, and dance for our youth)
